Hey, I’m Natalie, I’m a twenty-something (they let me vote, buy alcohol, and rent a car, so I don’t keep track anymore).

I like stuff, sometimes that stuff is on my blog.

All non-violent charges

image

barbie says “non violent offenses” is often misleading! and that a person can be charged with a “violent” offense simply for being in proximity of a weapon while breaking a crime. cops fucking lie and the prison system reinforces it!!

somehow instead of saying “as a treat”, I’ve started using the phrase “for morale”, as if my body is a ship and its crew, and I (the captain) have to keep us in high spirits, lest we suffer a mutiny in the coming days.

and so I will eat this small block of fancy cheese, for morale. I will take a break and drink some tea, for morale. I will pick up that weird bug, for morale.

I’m not sure if it helps, but it does entertain me

fun fact about me: When I was 6 years old I sent so much hate mail to the president (the second Bush) that the mail carrier had to tell my mom I needed to stop before we got FBI’d

I was COMPLETELY unaware of the US political scene or why the adults in my life hated Bush, but I knew I hated him because he let people shoot wolves from helicopters and that’s mean and shitty

I also had a poor grasp on how stamps worked, so given that I wasn’t allowed to continually throw money away by putting stamps on my presidential hate mail, a lot of the times I just drew squares with little pictures inside on the corner.

Love, love, love reading more proof that everyone should encourage the children in their lives to write to elected officials–it teaches them about citizenship and can also be very funny.

When I taught second grade, one of the options for students who had finished their work was to write a letter to the president. I would send all of the letters in a big envelope at the end of every month.

Watching my students get more and more frustrated with him (and concerned about his wellbeing) was not the result I’d hoped for when I came up with the idea, but it was kind of hilarious.

See, Obama had a standard packet with information and activities about his dog he’d send in response to letters from very young citizens…and of course his office sent one back to our class every single time we sent mail.

So eventually all of the letters looked something like this:

Dear President Obama,

I am writing about the environment. I am sad that the Great Barrier Reef is hurt. Also the Amazon Rainforest. Can you help? PLEASE DON’T WRITE BACK TO TELL ME ABOUT YOUR DOG AGAIN. WE ALREADY KNOW ALL ABOUT BO. WE COMPLETED THE MAZE AND COLORED HIM IN. It is good that you love your pet a lot. But try to remember the environment. It is also important.

Celsius is so low res y’all have like 3 possible numbers it can be outside

we’re the retro gamers of temperature

Fahrenheit lets me pick an outfit based solely on the 10s digit meanwhile you tell a Celsius user its gonna be in the 10s today and they have no clue what length of pants to wear. Is the 20s a pleasant walk or a day you should go swimming? Meanwhile Fahrenheit says its in the 70s and I know exactly what to expect today.

“But for science-” use Kelvin like a real man.

Look guys there’s nothing inherently better about either temperature system it’s literally what you grow up with. It’s all made up. You only think Fahrenheit is easier bc you grew up with it and the only reason you don’t understand Celsius is bc you didn’t. As someone who grew up with Celsius and had to learn Fahrenheit it’s still much more intuitive for me to tell temperature in Celsius.

A toddler with no previous exposure to either temperature system would not give a shit which one you used bc they won’t understand either of them. As you grow up you learn to associate a certain outside feel with this arbitrary number with either a C or F behind it. It’s literally just about familiarity. All of my friends who grew up outside the US prefer Celsius. It’s just about what’s easier for you to use.

I respect what you’re going for here but I don’t make inflammatory posts about inconsequential bullshit to reach some kind of compromise or consensus. Pick up a steel chair and go apeshit on somebody.

i get that i can expect to see the “unreality” tag a lot on my stuff. i post a lot of weird eldritch shit and even when i post something that isn’t it’s still deeply steeped in my nonsense.

but i’m fucking losing my mind at how even my posts that are correct and true will be tagged that. fatal incuriosity is inescapable when you’re me.

my “a coin is a three sided object. never forget that.” post earned an unreality tag at one point

i’m sorry but maybe you’re not the best watchdog for what’s real and what isn’t, champ. i think being the arbiter of reality requires at least a basic understanding of 3d space.

i once posted the south up map in here and someone tagged it unreality… buddy that’s the earth……..

WGA’s asking people interested in all the tree law fun to also sign this petition about a god damned bitch of an unsatisfactory situation on another street on the Same FUCKING lot. NBC Universal (whose CEO is Mike Cavanagh just btw in case Ron Pearlman is listening) has started a construction project that completely removed the sidewalks from five different gates, in two cases forcing pedestrians to literally walk into oncoming traffic. In addition to being an ADA violation, it’s just flat out despicably evil of them and WGA’s asking for public support on this issue.

Can you link where you saw the WGA asking people to sign this?

Fair question! Sure thing! Legit great instinct to make sure! Here’s the tweet I got it from:

Tweet from Writers Guild of America West @WGAWest, it reads "Say...while you're here, sign the petition being ciruclated by WGA members picketing at @NBCUniversal" followed by a link to the same petition linked above, as well as the hashtag "WGA Strike"ALT

It’s both described and linked so that you can be sure it’s the real deal, and if you click through you can see it’s in response to Kenneth Mejia’s tweet about investigating Universal for the Tree Law stuff, hence the specific connection I cite at the start of the post

Your sense of self isn’t a static image, bro. It’s more like a climate or a biome. Both of which can shift in gradual ways over time or suddenly due to internal or external factors. Just check the weather report, man. Don’t try to force the sky to stay blue without clouds 24/7.
